Great news! We heard your requests and are excited to announce a highly beneficial workshop in April dedicated to development with Unreal Engine 5. We’ll cover the basics of version control with Unreal Engine, a long-requested topic. The reason for the topic being so important is that collaboration between many different people in a gamedev team having different technical backgrounds requires source control strategies, and we’ll discuss software that makes it much easier.

Furthermore, we’re taking your workshop requests seriously, and we’ll be providing an actual workshop during this session. The only thing you’ll need is your own hardware for this one (BYOH, bring your own hardware)— just make sure it meets the prerequisites for running Unreal Engine 5. More information to follow at the end of this announcement!

Coffee and tasty snacks are included as always!

Schedule
18.00 Doors open, settling in, early networking
18.25 A greeting from the hosts
18.30 to 19.15 Talk by Oleg: Version Control
19.15 to 19.30 Coffee break
19.30 to 20.30 Workshop: Developing a simple game with Unreal Engine 5.1
20.30 to 21.00 Late Networking

This event is partially supported by IEEE Estonia Section (https://ieee.ee), IEEE Estonia Section Young Professionals AG, and the Department of Computer Systems, TalTech (https://www.ttu.ee/institutes/department-of-computer-systems/)

BYOH
If you’re up for the challenge of following the workshop—and trust us, it won’t be easy, especially for beginners—you’ll need to BYOH! This means bringing your own hardware, specifically a laptop capable of running Unreal Engine 5. But don’t worry, we’ve got you covered with power — extension cables will be provided to power your laptops 😉

To make the most of the workshop, there are a few important steps you’ll need to take beforehand.
1. Install the latest Unreal Engine 5.1;
2. Run the editor at least once. Whilst the shaders compile, you can enjoy a coffee, but be warned—the duration of the first-time compile process will depend on your setup. It will be much faster later.

The good news is also that the workshop WILL BE RECORDED. So, in case you get stuck somewhere in the tutorial, you will be able to pick up from that point with the recording!

We are looking forward to seeing you at the event!
